4-basic specifications to fix a fabric quality

The GSM( square gram weight of the fabric), what is the gram weight?

GSM means gram per square meter, means the fabric weight, that is generally used to indicate the thickness of the fabric, the greater the weight, the thicker the clothes. The weight of a T-shirt is generally between 160GSM and 220 GSM. Too thin will be very transparent, and too thick will be stuffy. Generally, it is better to choose between 180-280 GSM. (Short-sleeved T-shirts are generally based on 180-220 GSM. This thickness is just right. Long-sleeved T-shirts generally choose 260 GSM of fabric, which is a thicker type).

Yarn count, what is yarn count?

Definition: The number of length yards of cotton yarn with a nominal weight of one pound.

Coarse count yarn: pure cotton yarn with 18’S counts or less, mainly used for weaving thick fabrics or piled looped cotton fabrics.

Middle count yarn: 19-29’S count pure cotton yarn. Mainly used for knitted garments with general requirements.

Fine yarn: pure cotton yarn with 30-60’S counts. Mainly used for high-grade knitted cotton fabrics.

The higher the number, the softer the T-shirts are generally 21’S and 40’S.

The density of the fabric, what is the density of the fabric?

The density of the textile fabric refers to the number of yarns in a fixed length of the cloth (woven) or the number of loops in a fixed length of the cloth (knitting). The higher the density of the fabric, the finer the yarn count, the tighter the fabric structure and the greater the fabric weight on the contrary, the lower the density, the thicker the fabric yarn count and the looser the structure.

Fabric width?

The fabric width refers to the edge-to-edge width of the finished fabric. There are usually full width and effective width. The effective width is also called cut-able width.
